Growing Up In East London / 12.01.1959 - 05.04.1981

I vividly well recall that very early Monday morning of my birth, where although I couldn’t speak, (obviously, but strangely enough I could already brilliantly sing the entire National Anthem by heart, which had seemingly been automatically passed on to me genetically as if by magic? Not too long after that, I’d also mastered „I’m forever blowing bubbles" aka "Bubbles" as well – Fancy!). I did manage to scribble on the wall with a blooded finger – „What the fuck am I bleedin well doin here In poxy Norf London then,? I can clearly ear them bells darn Bow callin me, innit“.

And not too long after that as well, I got me licence to do anythin an everyfing too - Honnist to god!

One of my Godfathers (the other being my Dad’s brother, Uncle George) was a Polish Jew named Douglas, who I can’t recall at all at all. This picture was taken circa early 1963 and my wonderful Bavarian Lederhosen (must be some humour in there somewhere?) were a present from him. He couldn’t stand East London’s daily racism anymore, and finally went off to live in Boston Mass instead, from where he sent me dollars on every birthday, for many years to come – Lucky Me - Hooray!

Yours truly with Grandad Ricketts & Co in Sunny Yorkshire (Horbury near Wakefield) – circa 1962, proudly in front of his/their brand new council house. My Dad smugly grinning too, as he knew he’d soon be leaving for the South and The Smoke once again – Fancy! PS: Favourite Grandad sayings included „There’s Nowt ser Strange as Folk Lad!“ – „Splondy Dosh“ and „Swinging Dodgey“ - Also an avid reader of many books on subjects aux-various, with his current-affairs regularly derived from both The Wakefield Express and The Yorkshire PostA Great lifelong Fan of Wakefield Trinity too (Rugby League) a local then hero being Neil Fox – Fancy!

Like many other millions of Britons and Commonwealth Citizens, ‚my own two Grandfathers also did their bit‘ from 1939 – 1945. Grandad Ricketts, ‚pictured above‘, left his tough job as a coal miner and joined the First Army in North Africa, surviving to tell the tale (I got many letters from him in later life, where he described general thoughts of the time, as well as being a great fan of Max Jaffa’s Music too, no less).

Grandad Henty on the other hand, was a full-time RN (Senior Service) man, already steaming around the Far East Theatre in early 1937, serving on HMS Ceylon amongst others, as a CPO/Medic (he served right into the early 1960‘s - Also participating in the UN’s first ever Mission in Korea). A very different personality entirely, though I hardly remember him, as he died when I was quite young (his great passion over the years was to collect International Red Cross stamps (Mint) from wherever he was stationed, I vividly recall seeing the albums many years later as a boy, and marvelling at how attractive they all were). My Grannie, Mother, two Aunts & Uncle all most happily put in their own versions of events over the years too, to fill any possible gaps there – Oh Yes!

Posted – 15.08.24: Grandad Henty’s Bible („Manual of Seamanship 1937“ - his personal copy has been in my own private colllection for some 50+ years) – Really quite a good read for those at all interested in such matters „Full Steam Ahead Number 1“.

Eve is one of two people that had a most profound effect on the way my future life panned out. As well as us enjoying a fine, sweet, but short teenage romance (both exactly the same age, to the day, too) she was the one that convinced me to stay on at school for another 2 years, to very much enjoy the 6th Form life. Also Posted – 03.10.24 – As a last pointer to the above two thingies, this description also gives some personal perspective to flying about in that period, from different directions so to speak/write, though to roughly the same destination. Leaving 1984 West Berlin (by bus) to East Berlin’s Schönefeld Airport, (2 hours if you’re lucky), after a wait?, fly to Moscow (with either Aeroflot or Interflug – 4 hours-ish, lots of free booze served) then long, long wait, in very cold, very empty, very unfriendly airport). Then fly to Newfoundland, (Aeroflot via Greenland stop-off) then wait again. Last hop right down the Eastern Canadian board to the Sunny Carribean, namely (Eastern-Bloc) Cuba – Hooray! Although relatively cheap, that true adventure takes about 2 days, then enjoy a fortnight of sun (no loud-mouthed Yanks allowed – Hooray!) Then do it all again on the way back, the worst part being, actually getting on a bus back to West Berlin (local public transport not allowed, as you’re in de facto East Germany (GDR) not East Berlin, so a different visa is required naturally).which can sometimes take bloody hours and hours, and really tests patience and tempers to the limit. Alternatively, short BA flight, to then Sunny EU London from Sunny EU West Berlin, fairly short wait at Heathrow, then brisk 5 hour (very comfortable) 747 flight to Antigua direct – Sorted (though very broke for many, many months to come) – But Hey! It’s only money, innit.

Posted – 04.10.24 – PS: My last ever flight was in late 2002/3, on a trip to Barcelona just before Christmas. A Swiss Air Saab Concordino, (twin-turbo prop) a very nice little bit of kit I must say. Got de-iced/snowed at the iconic Berlin-Tempelhof (now closed unfortunately) a very expensive flight (5 times the usual price, as I was really last minute, and it was almost empty) then off to jolly old Basel (over the Alps) very impressive, then on to Sunny Spain, getting a lovely view of Marseille en-route too, „Luvvy Jubbly“.

Good Cop

Bad Cop -  (CID + SPG 3 Unit - Leytonstone E17 ) - Present as armed officer (as opposed to firearms officer - Smith & Wesson 38 Special - shoulder holster) at Balcombe Street Siege, Spaghetti House Siege, Iranian Embassy Siege, Anguilla Uprising Tour – Seriously injured and convalesced in, er, Brighton after Anti-Vietnam War Riots, and much later Yorkshire Miners Strike-Riots (which caused great stress all round personally for him & family-wise)Also ‚officially‘ accused of being involved in the Blair Peach affair (inadvertant accidental death via SPG contact), which went all the way to the Bailey (was found not to have been complicit) Thatcher disbanded the Group soon after - Although, at the time, many openly agreed with their most unorthodox (though highly-greyzone-legally-questionable- methods) they soon became even too hot a political potato for Maggie herself, so she simply binned them. PS: It’ll really be quite interesting to see how future, ie 2025 > onwards (far more privatized / US para-military-styled & badly-trained UK coppers (sic) (by the likes of Fatty Johnson’s ever-greedy chums, at pretty useless U.S. Arms giant Babcock for instance) all end up panning out) wunnit? - „Cripes!“- Cloggs-popped late 2003 (aged 67)

Posted – 27.10.24 – Mother’s (pictured above) other great lifelong friend (Nancy Mear, pictured above, close neighbour, originally from Cumbria and also a Mother of 5) was Joan Townsend (Auntie Joan, Mother of 3 > Both Eve's & Eddie's Mums were also real Salt of The Earth Sorts similar too) who was about as Cockney Sparra as they come. She grew up in one of these Prefabs, in the East End, then after getting married, escaped to well posh (then) Sunny Barking no less. Her old man Len, (who I knew very well as a young boy - as their place was a kind of refuge now and again, when my own parents had serious problems - usually work-related). Their own 3 lovely daughters were on another planet to me, swimming in Barking park Lido and riding the little diesel train was great fun though: (or so I thought at the time). Len - DS Met, unfortunately got unavoidably involved with a certain 3 highly infamous bruvvers, which badly changed everything for the more worserer. Mother & Joan + 2 once came to visit me here in 1984 (at my Staaken gaff by the Wall)on the long bus trip downtown on the first morning proper, half a dozen Chieftain Tanks + Escort were chugging their merry way along the main drag (Heerstraße), just in front of us. Faces were grim, until until I told them that they were British – Suddenly Joan (aged – 55-ish) was jumping up and down and screaming „Go On Boys – You Bloody Well Showed em! - Hooray! Hooray! Hooray!“ - A new experience for them (me too, only a few years earlier of course) but all the same – the upper deck was chocka, so - Well Embarrassin, ter put it mildly, I’m tellin yers! - Honnist – I visited Joan a few times in Sunny Brighton aka Skidrow on Sea, then she moved merrily to even Sunnier, er, New Zealand, to help her oldest daughter Marion & Family rear Olives & grow Goats! I automatically (sic) rushed down the stairs, only to find my younger sister Cally, aka Carol-Anne (aged 3-4) babbling away most profously at our half-opened kitchen door, which led out to the garden shed, and her beloved guinea-pigs, Zippy and Chuffer, no less. Quote: „The Sky has Fallen Down“ – A seriously heavy Fog had decended (most unusually), so a pretty logical statement as it happened, innit. A little while later, we were driving (as a family) down to Rockley Sands in Sunny Dorset/Devon, for a Summer (very wet) big-caravan holiday, where she casually asked „What are those black & white things then?“ - „They’re cows dear“ replied Mother, and on we happily all drove!“. On a slightly later hiking/camping reality trip to the Lake District, alone with my bruvver Andrew aka Andy, whils’t staying on a lovely farm field, right on the banks of Grassmere, he said to the farmer's wife one fine moaning when we got some wonderful fresh stuff from her little shop „Ain’t you got no proper milkman's milk then?“ - „Cripes!“ - I naturally told her he was adopted! True Third Country British Democracy has to be always worked at, (with 100% 24/7/365 Transparency) and once its gone, it will never come back again, lost forever, period. Voting is not a right anymore, it’s a privelege to be earned, and those eligible, who simply just don’t bother (including by casting a spoilt ballot) should simply shut the fuck up, and forever hang around with all the other like-minded Numpties, happily passing on the same old ad nauseam Racist rubbish to their whining, totally clueless, though ever-self-serving and ever-entitled offspring.

Posted – 07.12.24 – Private Eye Magazine – London (issue 1638 - December 2024) – I knew Gants Hill pretty well as a nipper, long long afore, last century. I can well envisage a crack Painting Team (master toshers Rodney & Grandad, managed by Delboy) up ladders, hearing his constant daft „A little dab’ll do yer!“ and „This is the age of the train!“ rhetoric. So well done to Trotters International Traders, they finally made it to Moscow at last – Hooray! And "Up Yours!" As the Russians say.

PS: Fun Facts: Assad originally trained as an eye sugeon at London’s then, world-beating Moorfields Hospital, where he married his English wife (still together today), then returned to Syria to supposedly turn around all the serious mayhem and carnage his brother & co had created. He ended up doing the exact opposite of course, though still being nicely recieved at Buck House by Brenda (with all the trimmings) and also given the open door to many other power-houses to-boot (as highly lucrative as very expensive weapons, etc, Exports always remain). Smart money now says that the only safe (sic) place he can now run to, is, er, Russia, but what will happen when that nutter finally gets kicked out too? Who cares? Also Posted – 08.12.24 x 2 This picture was taken at my Dad’s brother’s ,Uncle George + Auntie Jenny’s (never knew her real name) house. We all enjoyed the relative comfort of living in Sunny Cowley Road, Ilford, at the time, far away. Jenny (a Christian) came from Jordan, (with its Sandhurst-trained King Hussain, having very close ties with the UK at the time, as indeed, does his son now too, King Abdullah II (also Sandhurst-trained - Fancy!) where he met her on his various travels. There were still (after over 20 years+) many bombsites in this rundown area of London, and I also vividly recall seeing many Othodox Jews here too, in their pitch black attire, rushing about here, there, and everywhere.
PS: There are also 4 direct Cousins moseying about somwhere too? One pretty funny recollection was when he was quite young, he and our Dad, went on our first ever flight experience, somewhere in deepest Northamptonshire. The pilot of the chunky old Auster Aerocat, had a student with him, and us three sat behind. At one point we started to dive a bit, to which the pilot calmly instructed „Hold up your nose! Third Country Britain, has barely a fraction of its once, truly world-beating Forensic Science Services, with DNA (known here as DNS) etc, only being de facto expensively tested for the most lucrative of criminal cases. NDA’s (Non- Disclosure Agreements) are a ‚voluntary‘ way for very wealthy individuals & organizations to shut people up, (voluntary gagging agreements if you like - though not a legal order) by chucking loads of serious dosh at them, with the ominous warning, that if they ever dare to breach it, they’ll be sued right to the gunwhales, hindering any possible actual justice being done on the way too of course – „Cripes!“ PS: Another widely used legal tool (sic) used in today’s UK, are so-called SLAPP Orders (by the courts) usually used by seriously wealthy people once again, to shut gobby (sic) people up, though this time when breached, far tougher jailtime & bankruptcy consequences can ensue – https://www.sra.org.uk/solicitors/guidance/slapps-warning-notice/ - Hooray For Freedom!

Also posted – 14.03.25 – As a personal comment, the following came to mind after reading this article. Here in Sunny Federal (16 States) EU Berlin/Germany, any individual applying for any job involving children (in any scenario) requires an actual police-justice-record-statement (Advanced) easily availiable via local government offices. This statement (unlike the bog-standard one that can be obtained by post eventually) must be directly connected to the new post being applied for (it can't easily be manipulated). Nothing is 100% secure of course, (especially where pretty cunning and highly manipulative people are often invovled) but it's about as good as it gets I feel. Unfortunately certain private religious organizations, etc, do seem to let quite a lot of dodgy individuals through the net, although they are actually 'legally-bound' to require these advanced-police-justice-record-statements, and the old "I've/we've known him for years, he's as good as gold" blarney, (if not cheap) simply is not a viable excuse in AD 2025, period. PS: England alone currently boasts a quite ridiculous 43 completely seperate police f[a]orces. Many of their commanders (sic) are de facto civilians who've never actually been in uniform, though wield considerable local influence in their pretty bronze, silver & gold guises. Petty inter-force rivaly is ever-rife and extremely counter-productive, with low standards of training (much more coming soon) and many an indivudual who should never be let near a warrant card, finding it easy to get a job (not to mention, often second jobs on top) Now what could possibly go wrong, and who will ultimately be blamed? - Hooray! PPS: Smart money says - The chances of me being stopped in the street, harrassed, bricks through my windows, etc, etc, if I actually now lived in Third Country Britain, are pretty damned high I reckon (even as a complete nobody) – "Cripes!"

Also posted – 16.03.25 – As a personal observation, I think that if Fatty Johnson & Co were still running (sic) the show, this ruling would have panned out very differently indeed. The hypocrisy of Third Country British so-called Fairplay is highlighted here very clearly (and is unlikley to be seen in any other media outlets either). Fun Facts: Matrix Chambers was the old stomping ground of LSE-trained Scouse Cherie Blair (who she?) she became a QC (now KC, just like Our Keir) and later a Judge (as well as long-term Fan & Friend of Sir Cliff) presiding over various 'Human Rights' cases, costing the UK taxpayer very very large sums of dosh indeed – The price of Justice I suppose, innit - "I think it's impotent" – Our Teflon Tony was a barrister too of course – Hooray! PS: My own Mum was also a great Fan of Sir Cliff's, often fondly reminscing at seeing him Live as a spotty teenager. Unlike Our Cherie though, after all the totally false Auntie and Daily Wail rubbish came out, she simply vanished him from her mind. Even when it was later indesputibly (and very expensively costed to the taxpayer) proven that it was all totally Fake News, and a most ridiculous Witch Hunt it still didn't change her (and many others with heads long-term in the sand) stance unfortunately. If Our Cliff hadn't had the good friends and reputation he had/s (as well as a strong character to-boot) 'Love him or Loathe him' I'm sure he would have been eventually beaten by the wolves. This, (like the story above) shows the mind-blowingly destructive power of Trumpian-esque False Accusations at a very high level and on a major scale, does it not? PPS: Like many others, Sir Cliff regularly did Benefit Concerts here in Sunny EU Berlin & BAOR (for many years in fact) for The British Military Community, I once handed him his bill upon leaving our little Hotel one fine early morning (Duty Rates naturally) – to which he gleefully said "Ta! I'll pass it on to my people!"

Posted – 08.04.25 – In a perfect Third Country British Future this kind of Heat & Energy Management would quite simply be a No-Brainer of course - https://www.energiraven.com/heat-highways/ PS: Here in Sunny EU Germany, the first stages of a major National Project to re-distribute renewable energies in the form of Direct Current (DC) via undergound cables (slowly removing all ugly overground pylons along the route) are under way. When this power reaches its required destination, it’s then re-converted into Alternating Current (AC) to be used locally, accordingly. Energy prices vary greatly at the moment from North to South, the latter being much more expensive, so this kind of re-distribution is to put it simply, quite brilliant. When Hydrogen is finally ‚fit for purpose‘ (hopefully in the near future) the recently built (in record time) 4 new gas terminals on the Northern EU German coast (to combat the ever-dangerous Russian gas dependence) will also covert entirely to that as well – Hooray!
